Assigned Entry #3: ASU 7 1/2 week courses

all used to are slowly fading away and turning into the next “big thing.” Every semester different colleges and especially Arizona State University are integrating more classes that are only 7 ½ weeks long, meaning only taking a class that is half of time that we are used to. This also means that the instruction and the learning are to happen in a more faster and accelerated way. The decision of developing more classes like this is because these classes are filling up more quickly, and students are becoming more attracted to these types of classes.

My opinion
My opinion on these types of classes is that maybe they are not a great idea. Personally I’m much of slower learner and prefer the instruction to go in a more leisurely way. Professors would be in a rush to teach everything they have to teach and I feel like the students won’t learn everything they need to learn. I already complain of how fast the professors teach, now image a 7 ½ week class! I would go nuts!

Different Views
Many students have different viewpoint about these classes, some think it is the best thing colleges and universities could have done and others are like me, don’t like it and would never in the world would take a class like that one. Many say the schedule would be more flexible for them and for the teachers and they would finish school way faster. On the other hand, many argue that these classes would not adequately prepare the students for their future career if they rush through it.

Like one person mentioned in the article’s comment space, “It seems like a crammed course, where you just get the hours in, in order to get the grade and get out as fast as you can.” I totally agree with this person, the brain needs time to consume all the information, and process it.
